Smiths (Jaeger) Tachometer Calibrator Products
Accutach sells two tachometer calibrator tools that can be used to calibrate the Smiths brand tachometers (also known as Jaeger brand tachometers) used in many British vehicles from the 1960s. One product is a single-frequency stand-alone calibrator, and the other is a new RPM-selectable peripheral designed to be used with a modern computer with a standard 3.5mm stereo audio output.
Both of these calibrators will also drive other types of analog tachometers, such as those found in Fords and Hondas of the 1980s and 1990s. However, this unit requires the use of a higer amperage regulated power supply than the Analog Tachometer Calibrator does. These two pruducts are described in more detail below.
Accutach does not sell calibrators for mechanical tachometers.
This calibrator can be used to calibrate a Smiths Tachometer at an extremely accurate single frequency (RPM). As the components inside of these old tachometers age and the values drift, they are in constant need to tweaking to keep them accurate. This calibrator can also be used to debug broken tachs by driving them with a known signal. This calibrator can not be used to repair tachometers that have lost calibration across other RPM ranges. It requires the use of a well regulated 12 volt power supply, such as a charged car or motorcycle battery. Click

This calibrator can be used to calibrate and repair Smiths Tachometers by generating an extremely accurate frequency that can be varied from 0 to over 10,000 RPM. It requires the use of a PC running Microsoft Windows NT or newer with a standard 3.5mm stereo audio output and a well regulated 12 volt power supply, such as a charged car or motorcycle battery.
