If you have lost the ignition wire loop block or the U-shaped metal core clip for your Gen 1 Smiths tachometer during your restoration project, AccuTach Co. has the solution for you. We have reproduced the plastic block and the special magnetic core clip so you can safely get your tachometer working again without the risk of ignition wire chafing resulting in a dangerous short circuit to the tachometer case or if you have lost the core clip
.
These parts make up the primary winding for a pulse transformer that couples the ignition signal pulse into the tachometer. The metal clip is made of a special magnetic material and makes up the outside half of the transformer core. It is required to make the tachometer work.
You may buy the plastic loop block or the metal core clip individually or both together as a bundle.
The ignition wire loop is connected to the ignition switch on one side and the positive side of the coil on the other. The direction of the current through the loop matters to the tachometer. If you find your tachometer is not working correctly after installing the loop block, swap the sides of the loop that go to the ignition switch and coil positive terminal. Also, the U-shaped metal bracket is actually half of the input transformer core. Your tachometer will not work without that bracket over the plastic block.
